Marketing and sales is
a vigorous and high demanding field to get into, they have to innovate ways to
increase sales, and build brand awareness for multiple companies, while under
pressure. The growing diversity of marketing opportunities is demonstrated by
the various careers such as marketing management, advertising, marketing
research, etc.
Some of the duties
one could expect in sales or marketing involves; planning and implementing
sales, marketing and product development, makes sure plans run efficiently and
most importantly that achievement of satisfactory of profit meeting present
standards. There is a lot of
coordinating and planning that plays into marketing because you’re competing
with other companies as well as trying to direct and lead a team, as well as to
come up with the next big thing.
One must be knowledgeable about the skill or ability that is required of
them in order to complete a particular task.
In
order so get a decent job in Marketing, a master’s degree in a business field
is desired when companies are looking to hire, as well as a couple years of experience
in sales. The best place to look
for a job is in metropolitan areas. There are many different schools that are
recommended for marketing or business majors. The top five universities being
Northwestern University, University of Pennsylvania, Duke university, Stanford
university and University of Michigan. Students must take a variety of courses
including; Business to Business Marketing, Corporate finance, Logistics
strategies, marketing management, marketing strategy, retail management,
consumer behavior, global marketing, marketing channels, marketing research,
product and price management and sales management. These courses are required
for a major in marketing after successfully passing the General Education
classes.
Some of the skill sets needed to
be in the marketing field involve; being able to work under pressure,
organization, good listening, persuasiveness, building strong relationships,
and being self-motivating.
The average salary of a person in marketing is
around $90,000. The highest paid job is a marketing manager, which makes about
$116,000 annually. In order to
make a higher salary, it’s best to work in metropolitan areas such as New York
City, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and many more.
Companies all around the
world in different fields offer marketing/ sales jobs, in which case opens up a
lot of opportunities and career paths that carter to your interest. For people
who like to work with media and computers, there is media planning which
involves putting up advertisements in emails, newspapers, magazines, TV
commercials, YouTube videos and many more. For people who may be interested in fashion there is fashion
marketing. The list goes on for different career pathways may be best suited
for every individual.
Sales and Marketing is demanding and competitive. The only issue is the market is
constantly fluctuating and you’re either making a good amount of money or
you’re barely making any. The challenge is rewarding, and it’s also motivating
and an incentive to work that much harder and achieve the next goal.
